The Macabre of Art and Literature

The word “maqabir”, meaning ‘cemeteries’, is derived from the former. And the word “mhkbr” (pronounced ‘Mehakever’), meaning ‘from the grave’, derived from the latter. With reference to history, Macabre is said to have been a derivative of a painting titled “Je fis de Mecabr’e la danse” (1376) by Jean le Fevre. The origins of the word Macabre are a matter of debate; no claim being certain for sure. With regards to linguistics, connections have been linked to Arabic and Hebrew.
