By 1909, Modigliani returned to Livorno to his family, seeking a cleaner life, only to go back to Paris in 1911. He then rented a studio and worked on sculptures under Constantin Brancusi for around a year, producing numerous pieces. During this time he carved a limestone sculpture known as Tete- a woman’s head in his signature style: elongated neck, long thin nose, oval face and almond eyes. This has now become the second most expensive sculpture sold in 2010.
